Stay Awake | May 7, 2017

Getting Started

  • Why do you think it is so difficult for us to wait?
  • Describe an instance where you've had to wait for something, and the end result was pleasant.

Community Discussion

  • Jesus commanded His disciples to "stay awake", anticipating His unexpected return at all times. We are prone to falling asleep as we wait. How are we as a community asleep in regards to the eternal needs of the people in our community and those not yet in our community? What things distract our community from faithful and fruitful ministry as we await Jesus' return?
  • One of the ways we can "stay awake" as we anticipate Jesus' return is to "stay alert" by being committed to the long-term vision for ministry work. What is our long-term vision for the work God wants to do through us in our neighborhood? What are some ways we can "stay active" and begin working from this vision to see these things become reality?
  • What are some ways we are currently proclaiming the Gospel to ourselves, those within our community? What are some practical ways we can make this a more regular part of our rhythms?

  • We were encouraged to celebrate God's goodness in the past while seeing where God was at work in our world and actively join Him in that work. What are some areas in which you see God working in our world? How can you become actively involved in what God is doing?

Family

  • We were encouraged to celebrate God's goodness in the past while seeing where God was at work in our world and actively join Him in that work. What are some areas in which your family can see God working in your neighborhood? How can your family become actively involved in what God is doing?
