The Trials: Jesus before the Council | June 25, 2017

Getting Started

  • Describe an instance where you have felt someone was wrongly accused and facing trial despite their innocense.
  • What are some things in life that people use as a "rescue plan" for salvation instead of Jesus?

Community Discussion

  • In what ways are we holding Christ on trial as a community? What are some ways we are examining the faithfulness of God in our lives? What are some ways we are believing things about who Jesus is instead of believing what scriptures tell us about who Jesus is? How does this hinder the mission we should be doing as a community?
  • We learned that unrepentant sin was like spitting in the face of Jesus and his accomplishments on the cross. In what ways are we living in unrepentant sin? As a community, how are we creating an environment for faith and repentance to flourish within our group and without our group?
  • Jesus has always been God's "rescue plan". What are some of our own "rescue plans" that we find security in instead of the gospel? In what ways do we seek to rescue ourself from our sin instead of trusting in the finished work of Jesus?

Further Discussion

Discipleship

  • In what ways are you holding Christ on trial in your life? What are some ways you are examining the faithfulness of God in your life to see if He is who he says He is? What are some ways you are believing things about who Jesus is instead of believing what scriptures tell us about who Jesus is? How does this hinder the mission you should be doing in response to the gospel?
  • We learned that unrepentant sin was like spitting in the face of Jesus and his accomplishments on the cross. In what ways are you living in unrepentant sin? To whom are you confessing your sins to? What are some ways in which you can begin to repent and believe the gospel in regards to areas of unrepentant sin in your life?
  • Jesus has always been God's "rescue plan". What are some of your own "rescue plans" that you find security in instead of the gospel? In what ways are you seeking to rescue yourself from your sin instead of trusting in the finished work of Jesus?

Family

  • We learned that unrepentant sin was like spitting in the face of Jesus and his accomplishments on the cross. In what ways are the members of your family living in unrepentant sin? How are you making space as a family to confess sin, repent of sin, and encourage continual pursuit of Jesus in your home?
  • Jesus has always been God's "rescue plan". What are some of your own "rescue plans" that your family finds security in instead of the gospel? In what ways is your family seeking to rescue yourselves from your sin instead of trusting in the finished work of Jesus?
