Death to Life • Central Campus

Getting Started

After reading Ephesians 2:1-10 and watching the sermon recap video, describe what you think it means to be "dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked." What aspects of our lives are affected by this condition?

Read vv 1-3 and describe the ways you have experienced the world, the flesh, and the devil exercise dominating influence over you.

How does this reveal our nature of being spiritually dead?

What are the consequences of remaining spiritually dead?

The good news of this text comes in vv 4-5, which declares, "But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ."

What motivated God to make sinners alive in Christ?

The Apostle continues to describe the work of God in saving sinners in vv 6-9.

How does this teaching of "regeneration" keep us humble? How does it at the same time exalt God and Christians?

The stated purpose of God in saving sinners is found in v 10. "We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Pastor Mikey pointed out that these good works are expressed in walking according to the purposes of God, believing the promises of God, and with the people of God.

God's purpose of good work is not for us to earn our standing before Him or to make ourselves worthy, but to prove Him worthy. How does this truth affect your motivation for good work?

The promises of good work is that we are given the merciful and unmerited favor to participate in God's work. How does this truth sustain your faithfulness?

The people of God's good work encourage us to look to Christ and put off sin. How have you utilized the people of God in order to walk according to His purposes and believe His promises?
